Pre- and Post-Care Instructions

Pre-Care Instructions
Give Yourself Healing Time…
Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may swell slightly, or redden, it is advised not to make social plans for the same day. Lip color may appear “crusty” for up to one week.
For all procedures
Please wear your normal make-up to the procedure. Bring your favorite eyebrow and eyeliner pencils as well as your favorite lip color.
Some medications and herbs can increase bleeding and swelling, i.e.; aspirin, blood thinners, diet pills, vitamin E, multi-vitamins, niacin, st johns wart, evening primrose oil, and ginkgo-biloba. Please discontinue use of these for at least 24 hours before all procedures. However, NEVER DISCONTINUE A MEDICATION YOUR PHYSICIAN HAS RECOMMENDED WITHOUT CONSULTING HIM OR HER.
Please avoid alcohol the day of the procedure as this also increases bleeding and swelling.
If you are required to take an antibiotic pre-med before dental treatments, you must take it before any permanent makeup procedure.
Plan a shopping trip ahead of time for items you will need: Aquaphore Ointment or Lansinoh Lanolin, straws (for lip procedures), Q-tips and any prescription that you may need.
Eyeliner
- Do not wear contacts to the procedure or for 24 hrs after.
- Bring sunglasses to wear home. Eyes may be light sensitive.
- Do not dye or perm lashes for 2 days prior and for one week after.
- Do not use eyelash curler the day of the procedure.
- If you have had any type of eye surgery, consult the physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent eyeliner procedure.
Eyebrows
- Do not tweeze, wax or dye brows for 2 days prior and one week after.
- Electrolysis should not be done for a week prior
Lips
- Understand that Fever Blisters are a very common side effect of lip tattooing. I strongly suggest getting your doctor or dentist to prescribe an oral medication prior to any Lip procedures
- If you have had any type of lip surgery, consult with the physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent makeup procedure on the lips. Most physicians are giving a 3 week ok after lip filler injections like collagen or Restylane. If the lip surgery involves an incision (like a lip implant), the incision needs to mature about 6 months before tattooing on top of it.
I look forward to working with you. If you have any questions, please call or make notes so I can discuss them with you when you arrive for your appointment.
Post Procedure Instructions
Immediately Following the Cosmetic Tattoo Procedure:
- Your permanent makeup will look TOO DARK! (Eyebrows and Eyeliner) and TOO BRIGHT! (Lips.) A light scab will form and flake off as you heal. Your permanent makeup will look softer by day 7.
- Apply an icepack to treated area for 10-30 minutes at a time. Ice helps reduce swelling and aids in healing.
- Sleep elevated at a 45 degree angle for the first 2 nights to reduce swelling.
- Apply pressure to lips with a dry paper towel for 24 hours.
- Benadryl and 800mg Ibuprofen will help reduce any pain and swelling
For 14 Days Following Cosmetic Tattoo Procedure:
- Use a clean Q-tip to apply ointment at least 3 times a day. (More often for lips.)
- Do not expose treated area to the sun. (Sun exposure during the first week will lead to heat blisters on the lips, which will hurt and result in color loss.)
- You may apply makeup over the treated area after 4 days, but remove with Vaseline.
- Absolutely no cleansing creams or chemicals. Gently cleanse the intradermal cosmetic area with mild antibacterial soap (Dial). You may rinse with water and lightly pat the area dry.
- Absolutely no picking or scrubbing. Do not pick at the epithelial crust; allow it to flake off on its own.
- Do not soak treated area in bath, swimming pool or hot tub. Do not swim in fresh, salt or chlorinated pool water.
- Do not expose treated area to full pressure of the water in the shower.
- You may feel itching after 2 -3 days, this is normal. Do not scratch! Apply ointment to help minimize the sensation.
- Drink through a straw. (For lip procedures)
- Avoid touching your procedure area. This can transmit bacteria into the area and lead to an infection.
- 1000mg of Vitamin C twice a day for bruising.
Failure to follow post-treatment instructions may cause loss of pigment, discoloration or infection.
Remember, colors appear brighter and more sharply defined immediately following the procedure. As the healing progresses, color will soften. Makeup may be used to tone color down until this time. Lips will not have their full color until 8 weeks of healing.
If necessary, an appointment for a touch up procedure may be made after 8 weeks following the initial procedure at no extra charge.
